KTH reduces extended exam time support – what you need to know
The decision
KTH has decided to introduce a new support level of 25 % extended exam time. In practice, this means that the majority of students who currently have 50 % extended time will see their support reduced to 25 %.
This is a decision that THS strongly criticizes.
The FAQ below contains important information for students affected by the change.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why has this change been made?
The main reason is that KTH needs to reduce its use of facilities, as the university will experience significantly higher room occupancy in the fall. This is primarily due to the closure of Campus Kista and Campus Södertälje, which means more students will be relocated to Campus Valhallavägen.
My extended exam time has been reduced, but I need 50 %. What should I do?
KTH has stated that students with greater support needs should still be able to receive 50 % extended time. This decision must always be based on the student’s individual situation. Funka is required to consider medical certificates and the judgment of your doctor.
The first step is to contact Funka (funka@kth.se) and explain your situation. In some cases, it may be a mistake that can be resolved by email.
If Funka refuses to reinstate your 50 % support, contact your doctor or healthcare provider to discuss your needs and obtain a certificate. The medical certificate should be as clear and specific as possible, explaining your needs and which disabilities or diagnoses they stem from. Then reach out to Funka again with the updated documentation.
I’m still not satisfied – can I appeal?
Yes, you always have the right to appeal to the Higher Education Appeals Board.
Send your appeal to funka@kth.se. You must clearly state in the email that it is an appeal to be forwarded to the Higher Education Appeals Board. There is no specific template, but it must be clear that you request your case to be reviewed by the board.
The Higher Education Appeals Board is the highest authority in these matters, meaning its decision cannot be appealed.
I have more questions – who can I contact?
If you have questions about Funka support, contact funka@kth.se.
If you experience problems with that communication, or would like to speak to a student representative, you can always contact studiemiljo@ths.kth.se.
