SSSB – Housing queue
Since Stockholm has a very difficult housing situation, many young people in Stockholm therefore rely on second hand renting. Renting second hand can be a great way to find accommodation quickly, but it can also be a challenge to find something affordable, safe and lasting. Unfortunately there are people who try to make a profit from the situation by creating false housing ads.
If you have received accommodation through KTH and have any questions, please visit KTH Housing.
SSSB is the largest student accommodation landlord in Stockholm. Vacant apartments are offered to the applicants who have the most days in the queue. You should register on their housing queue list as soon as possible, since the average waiting time is about 200-300 days. However, there are student who receive accommodation quicker, and they do have last minute deals which are posted on first come-first serve basis. You will need to visit this website every few hours to have a chance on those deals.
Important information:
- You should change your SSSB account’s email address to your KTH Mail as soon as you receive it, otherwise your membership may not be recognized.
- You can accumulate up to 90 queue days in SSSB’s housing queue without joining a student union. If you want to accumulate more than 90 days, you have to be course registered at KTH and a student member of THS. This means you cannot collect more than 90 days before starting your studies. You will need to manually pause your queue once you reach 90 days, otherwise your queue days automatically get forfeit once you reach 91 days without having a valid student union membership.
- As a newly admitted student, you may move into housing with SSSB after August 1st even without being a student union member yet. You have to use your admission letter as proof that you will be studying. The union membership requirement still persists, however, SSSB will not check until later on when the semester has begun. This means as long as you become a student union member as soon as you register for courses, you can move in early. For more information, please read here.
Akademiskkvart is a website containing private housing advertisements aimed at researchers and students. It is a joint effort from the Universities and Student Unions in Stockholm and the city of Stockholm to try to help both Swedish and International students with housing. As getting a room through SSSB before starting your studies is unlikely, considering this or other subletting services as an entry point into the Stockholm housing market might be helpful.
